Procedure for porcelain veneers
- Porcelain veneers are highly lustrous & cosmetic restorations. They are completed in 2 visits.
- Porcelain veneers are thin covers fabricated & bonded to the front surface of the teeth
1st Visit:
- Porcelain of the desired shade is carefully selected
- The teeth may or may not require preparation for porcelain veneers. If required, approximately 0.3-0.5mm (thickness of a fingernail) of the front tooth surface is removed to allow space for the porcelain layer.
- an impression is taken of the teeth & sent to a dental laboratory for the fabrication of the veneers. Approximately 1 week is required for fabrication. During this time temporary resin veneers are made & bonded to the teeth.
2nd visit:
The porcelain veneers are bonded to the tooth surface
It is important to note that the provision of porcelain veneers is an irreversible procedure. Although porcelain veneers are considered long lasting restorations, they may require maintenance or replacing in the future. Individual results can also vary with porcelain veneers dependent on the existing colour, shape and alignment of your teeth. Your specific case will be discussed during your consultation.
